The last band concert of the summer of 2011

The last Brass Band Concert of the summer season for 2011 held this Sunday ended on a very high note.

The weather was perfect, warm and sunny with a pleasant breeze, and the band on offer, The Friendly Band of Sowerby Bridge were of a very high standard.

One of the new local businesses in the area, Northern Hospitality Ltd, kindly loaned tables so that a pleasant picnic area could be established and as you can see the whole event appealed to a wide range of local residents.

Some of our guests took shelter from the bright summer sun under the shady trees, others though had fur coats they could not take off but still seemed to enjoy being out in the fresh air and enjoying the exercise.

Once again there were buns and drinks on offer and even free copies of books handed out by the COVEN Cup Cake Book Club.  There was also a raffle to raise money for the Friends of East End Park with prizes donated by local businesses and residents.

The Friends of East End Park are hoping to maintain and even expand the scope of entertainment in the park over the coming year so keep watching this space for more details.

We would like to thank all the residents and friends of East End Park, all the bands and most of all the very hard working and helpful park staff, especially Tracy and Mick for all their help we could not have done it without you!

Even without a Band Concert East End Park is well worth a visit for a walk, for the children's playground and for the sports facilties so take a stroll and enjoy this beautiful Victorian Park in the very heart of the inner city.

  1. Congratulations to all - The Friends have raised a total of £143 from holding raffles over the summer season. Many thanks to businesses that donated prizes and to the people who bought tickets. This will enable us to put on more events in the coming year.
